Shelter

Safety first, shelter care

It’s impossible to get an education if you are not safe. Her Future works with local operating partners to build, expand and maintain shelters for rescued girls, and to support the ongoing needs of girls in shelter care. Having a safe and loving place to recover -guarded from traffickers and pimps – is a crucial first step in a girl’s journey to recovery. Many girls are rescued as children and need a safe, loving home until they reach adulthood. In our shelters, they receive counseling, education, and vocational training.

SHELTER CARE PROGRAM DETAILS

Rescue Foundation conducts more rescues than any other organization in India – over 400 a year.  We are proud to support them in providing full circle shelter care to hundreds of survivors each year

We built this shelter for 150 girls in a rural town of Bengal India in 2015, and expanded it in 2017 to make room for a library, informal education and vocational training programs.

Provides a safe space for children to study, rest, receive counseling, tutoring and other services from early morning to late at night.  Girls and boys are at extreme risk when their mothers are seeing clients, because they share one room in a brothel with their mothers.  Without intervention, 90% of girls and 70% of boys will be sexually assaulted or trafficked by the age of 9.

Know the facts

In the red light areas of India, children live in one room in a brothel with their mothers, making them extremely vulnerable to abuse by their mother’s clients. 90% of girls and 70% of boys in Kolkata red light communities are sexually abused by the age of eight.

Solutions from within

Through our three Red Light Resource Centers, we provide shelter from morning to midnight to 300 children, allowing them to go to school rather than being trafficked alongside their mothers.
