Education dramatically reduces child marriage, lowers vulnerability to trafficking and violence, and can nearly double earnings, giving a young girl the independence that keeps her, and her daughters, safe. By sponsoring a girl’s education, you help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and exploitation.

For a girl born into a red-light area, or one who has survived trafficking, the odds are stacked against her from the start. Without an education, the same poverty and exploitation that shaped her mother’s life is too often waiting for her.

Education changes that. Of the 1000+ girls who have come through our sponsorship program, not one has been trafficked or re-trafficked, even though they come from some of the highest-risk communities in India.

Poverty is one of the most widely recognized root causes of trafficking. A girl who returns home with no schooling and no way to earn a living is vulnerable to being trafficked again, and often faces stigma from her own family and community. A girl with an education has options: a diploma, a career, an income of her own, and the power to choose her own future.

You’ll receive an introduction to the girl or program you’re supporting, so you know exactly whose future you’re building.

Throughout the year, you’ll get updates on her progress, from classroom milestones to new skills learned.

EDUCATION, NOT EXPLOITATION

Sponsorship Options

When you sponsor a child’s education, we’ll match you with an individual child or a group of girls participating in one of our programs. Our team meets regularly with every sponsored child, and you’ll receive updates on your child’s progress at least twice a year.

Success Stories

This year, 20 girls from our longtime partner Ek Tara started college. They’re studying law, business and hotel management (the most popular choice), English, political science, zoology, and geology. Four are pictured here.

They began their education at Ek Tara, then attended the HFC Middle School at Ek Tara. Most went on to private high schools with our sponsorship, and now we’re sponsoring their college education.

A college degree changes the course of a young woman’s life, and her family’s too. It’s how the cycle of poverty and exploitation ends.
